We are pleased to share that Lutheran West Drama is once again participating in the Playhouse Square Dazzle Awards program presented by Pat and John Chapman this school year. With the aim of inspiring performance and recognizing the importance of musical theater and arts education in Northeast Ohio high schools, the program is affiliated with the National High School Musical Theatre Awards (“The Jimmy Awards”) presented by The Broadway League Foundation.
"This program has been an amazing benefit for our students," says Drama Director Caroline Pangrace. "Not only does it provide recognition and awards for our actors and backstage crew members, but it also offers various educational opportunities. The Dazzle Awards program conducts a variety of Master Classes and workshops during the school year allowing our students to learn directly from actors and crew members who are part of the Broadway tours that perform at Playhouse Square. Students learn choreography from those shows, get feedback on their singing or acting, or learn about jobs in technical theater. After attending each workshop, the students who attended lead a discussion with their cast and crew members at school to tell them about the experience and pass along what they learned. Our program has continued to evolve thanks to the encouragement and guidance from these workshops and the Dazzle Awards program."
The Playhouse Square Dazzle Awards program culminates with the Dazzle Awards ceremony on May 18, 2024. Awards are presented to outstanding musical theater productions and students in 13 categories, including Best Musical, Best Actor/Actress, Best Student Orchestra, Best Costume Design and Best Scenic Design. Nominations and awards are based on the evaluations of an independent panel of adjudicators. The winners of the Best Actor and Actress categories represent Northeast Ohio at The Jimmy Awards during the summer. More information about the Playhouse Square Dazzle Awards is available at playhousesquare.org/dazzleawards.
Last school year, Lutheran West was the recipient of 5 Dazzle Awards nominations, the most in school history. Lutheran West Drama just concluded its fall musical production, Little Shop of Horrors, and is now working on the spring musical Mamma Mia!, which they will perform March 21-24, 2024.
