The Cleveland Lutheran High School Association (CLHSA) is an organization which serves and supports both Lutheran West in Rocky River, OH and Lutheran East in Cleveland Heights, OH.
The CLHSA has its origins in 1946, when Lutheran congregations across Northeast Ohio formally convened to resolve to build a Lutheran High School in Cleveland. On September 7, 1948, forty-eight students from 19 congregations began school at Lutheran High School (2648 Prospect Avenue in Cleveland). In 1956, Cleveland’s Innerbelt freeway was proposed, resulting in the State of Ohio’s exercise of eminent domain on the school’s downtown property. The following year, the CLHSA broke ground on the 17-acre plot of land in Rocky River that would become Lutheran High School West and the 12-acre property in Cleveland Heights that would become Lutheran High School East. Since then, both schools have operated continuously, serving thousands of students throughout the decades.
The mission of the CLHSA is to prepare and equip students to excel in service, leadership, and learning while living as disciples who are rooted and grounded in the love of Christ.
The CLHSA office is located in Rocky River and includes the offices of:
Aside from supporting day-to-day operations of the high schools, the CLHSA’s primary objective is to promote giving to the Association, which enables both schools to continue their missions and provide Christian education to more students.
