Head of Campus Safety: Jon Miller ’95
Lutheran West is committed to providing, as much as reasonably possible, a safe and secure campus environment for its students, faculty, administration, staff, and visitors. For the last two years we have worked with the Rocky River Police Department to provide supervision and support during the drop off and pick up hours. It has been a blessing to have them around, but we have seen an opportunity where we can make a bigger impact on our community. Administration has desired to hire a full time officer who can be on campus throughout the entire day, build relationships with our students and the community, while pushing to continue to keep our school safe.
We are excited to announce that we have hired a full time Director of Campus Safety, Mr. Jon Miller. He just recently retired as a 25 year veteran of the Mentor Police Department. Throughout that time, he has served in numerous specialized roles, including Bike Patrol, Evidence Technician, Video Forensic Analyst, and Field Training Officer—mentoring many new officers along the way. He spent 9 years in the Detective Bureau and also served as a Special Deputy with the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force. He has received numerous commendations and awards, most recently being named the 2024 Officer of the Year for the Mentor Police Department.
As a veteran officer, we look to forward to adding Mr. Miller’s expertise into all areas of safety and security in our building. In this role as Director of Campus Safety, Mr. Miller is authorized to possess a firearm while on or about the campus. All of this is in an effort to continue to create a safe environment for our students and our community. Mr. Miller is no stranger to Lutheran West as he is a proud alumni of the class of 1995 and already has one of his children who has graduated from Lutheran West and one still to come. Please join us in welcoming our new Director of Campus Safety, Mr. Miller!
In anticipation of his new role, Mr. Miller says, “I am excited to return to Lutheran West to serve my alma mater in a capacity that will provide safety and security to students and staff. I look forward to building lasting relationships with Lutheran West families.”
