Band

Prerequisite: Students must have at least a basic skill level on a band instrument.

Description: Band is a co-curricular class that meets during school time but which has extra-curricular aspects. Students cannot opt to do one or the other. You’re either in band or you’re not. Every effort is made to work with individual student schedules and activities. Students earn a credit and a grade, but most performances are outside of school time and summer rehearsals are necessary to prepare for marching season. Band provides the opportunity for students of good character and a sincere interest in instrumental music to participate in a variety of well-structured instrumental music ensembles, to learn the many aspect of musicianship, meet fair but firm standards of discipline, develop leadership, and have an enjoyable musical experience that can lead to a lifelong appreciation and love of music. Simply stated, the goal is “to have fun, work hard, and get better each day.”

Grading: Grades are based on each student’s participation in group activities.
