Activities & Clubs
At Lutheran West, students are encouraged to explore their interests and discover activities they truly love. From service clubs to intramural sports, students stay active and involved in our school community, our local neighborhoods, and the world. Clubs and extra-curricular activities vary by year depending on student interest and faculty advisor availability.
Examples of extra-curricular activities and clubs available at Lutheran West include:

The Academic Challenge Club is a team made up of students, selected by Mrs. Slack (Academic Dean and Dean of The Senney Honors Academy) from each grade. A maintained GPA of 3.0 or higher and a commitment to scheduled events is required. The Academic Challenge team competes at Lutheran West and at other schools. In recent years, the Lutheran West Academic Challenge team was selected to appear on local television in 2009, 2011, and 2019. |

The Ambassadors of West are a group of students that serve as the link between the school and prospective students and families. The primary responsibility is assisting the Director of Admissions with the planning, coordination, and implementation of recruitment in a variety of events. Ambassadors serve as tour guides during Admissions Open Houses, attend off-site visits to elementary and middle schools, host students during Shadow Days, and are selected to serve in community events representing Lutheran West. Students who demonstrate an enthusiastic and spirited attitude about Lutheran West, supported by teachers and administrators based on academic performance, participation in extra-curricular activities, and fine character demonstrated both in and out of the classroom, are selected to serve as an Ambassador of West. For more information, contact the Admissions department at admissions@lutheranwest.com. |

The Lutheran West Business Club provides real-world opportunities for students to create, manage, and finance entrepreneurial endeavors in collaboration with their peers. Examples of start-up businesses created by Business Club members include the Lutheran West Café and Westside Waffles, a venture that made and sold waffles on a stick (and dipped into chocolate!) at home athletic events. Members of the Business Club also have the opportunity to participate in business-related field trips, designed to enhance their understanding of the business world in general and the local business landscape of Northeast Ohio. |

Chapel Band Leading worship in Chapel services each week is not something that we at Lutheran West take lightly. We are singing in the presence of the Almighty God, and as such we should, as the psalmist put it, “make a joyful noise before the Lord” and “praise him with cymbals and a big bass drum.” With that directive in mind, Lutheran West’s Chapel Band was formed to lead our twice-weekly worship service with a full rock band. Electric guitars and drums highlight the band made up of upperclassmen and faculty members. The Chapel Band leads worship at all voluntary Chapels and once per week in regularly scheduled Chapel. |

The EPIC Service Club at Lutheran West works hard to represent a Christ-centered environment through action. The students involved in this club portray a servant leader's heart and show a desire to help others and their community. Any student can be a part of EPIC Service Club; there is no application/selection process. After the group has come together, members elect the President, Vice President, and Treasurer. Meetings are held at least once a week to discuss and decide on projects that the school can participate in to help others. |

is a nationwide organization with the stated mission, "To lead every coach and athlete into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His church." The missions and values held by the FCA closely resemble those of our own Athletic Department and those of our school as a whole. The FCA places strong emphasis on four key values: Integrity, Service, Teamwork, and Excellence. Any Lutheran West student who is an active member of an athletic team at any level may be a member of our chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. |

The German Club is for all students who are taking German 1 or above, or have taken German at the high school level in previous years. Frau Pangrace, the German teacher, holds gatherings once or twice per month. Students speak exclusively German, as well as learn new words and activities that students their age in Germany would be doing. The German Club also holds game days, at which they play American games, like Monopoly, with everything written and played in German. During holiday seasons, they hold parties that allow them to experience German culture. They even get to go on trips to German restaurants and experience a German festival and traditional folk music. |

Participation in one or more of many intramural sports at Lutheran West is a favorite element of student life. Our intramural basketball league, played in the winter, culminates in a highly competitive championship game at the conclusion of the season. |

National Honors Society (NHS) National Honors Society is a selected group of sophomores, juniors, and seniors. While NHS recognizes academic achievement, it also focuses on service and character. Students are selected during their sophomore based on a specified requirements, such as a minimum 3.5 GPA. If a student does not meet this requirement in his or her sophomore year, he or she can still be inducted as a junior. If the student is selected, they will receive a letter to notify them that they are a potential NHS member. When a student receives a letter, they have the choice of membership. If they wish to become a member, they are required to write an essay and also provide a list of service hours and extracurricular activities. It is important for a member of NHS to be well-rounded and have leadership qualities. Students may or may not be accepted after submitting their essay. If they are accepted, they will remain a member of the National Honors Society after induction in sophomore year and until and throughout senior year. Meetings are held regularly during the school year. |
