LW got popped in the chin Saturday, losing both ends of a miserably cold and wet double header. While the Cleveland Indians sat in a rain delay, the Longhorns and Blue Devils slopped their way through two games, with Independence winning both easily.
After falling in the first game 13-0, West gave the ball to sophomore Aaron Geye. Geye, who was really just getting work so as to be sharp for Wednesday’s game against Fairview, threw the first two innings and left with LW and Independence tied 1-1.
Junior Eric Lewis relieved, pitched the third and fourth, and was tagged for four runs putting the score up to 5-1. Senior Tony Haberkorn, making his varsity pitching debut, gave up the final three runs in the fifth inning.
Offensively, there is little to discuss. Sophomore Derek Naim scored the game’s first run, when, after he singled with one out in the second, he stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on an RBI ground out by senior Andrew Samoson. LW got their other two runs in the seventh when Samoson scored on an RBI ground out from Ricky Downer and Lewis knocked in Geye with a two-out RBI single from.
