The Longhorns hoped to rebound from a tough game versus Firelands a week before in which they managed to get only two hits. LW’s offense showed up strong late in the game, but it proved to be too late after they had already taken an eight run deficit early in the match-up against Buckeye.
Pitching for the Longhorns was junior CJ Griffin. Griffin allowed eight runs off of nine hits and recorded two strikeouts. LW replaced Griffin in the fourth with sophomore Eric Szczepinski who allowed two runs, threw two strikeouts, and walked five, slowing the Bucks down but not stopping them completely. Finally, sophomore Collin McCartney came into the game in the fifth to close and allowed zero runs and only one hit, shutting down Buckeye completely and giving LW the chance to come back.
The Longhorns’ offense reappeared as they began swinging and getting hits again, something that has not come easy to them in their past few outings. As a team, they managed to get ten hits with senior Ricky Downer having three of them. The team had a big sixth inning in which they scored five runs to bring them within three, but they could not get any closer for the rest of the game.
The Longhorns look to start winning again on Thursday with another home game versus rival Fairview.
