Honors Academy Overview

The Honors Academy at Lutheran West presents a rigorous curriculum to students wishing to grow academically, spiritually, and as leaders during their high school years.

Since 1958 Lutheran West has provided thousands of students the opportunity to achieve their academic goals with its outstanding college preparatory program. Lutheran West is proud to present the next step in education with The Honors Academy.

Students will enjoy a curriculum that enables them to dialogue with some of the area’s most successful leaders, develop a vast array of analytical thinking skills, achieve strong standardized test scores, and prepare for success at the collegiate level. The Honors Academy also ensures that students become leaders in their communities by enabling them to serve with a variety of local, national, and global organizations.

Academy Components

The Lecture Series

Influential leaders are invited to address The Honors Academy on a monthly basis. The predominant focus is upon highlighting leaders who make a difference in their local, state, and national communities.

College Tours

Students and their families have the opportunity to take a weekend tour of college campuses across the United States in regions including the Northeast, Midwest, and South.

Service and Internships

Relationships with an agency are formed over a student’s high school career to fulfill service hour requirements and move towards internship opportunities.

Standardized Test Preparation

Professional ACT/SAT test-taking services are provided. Advanced Placement exam completion is required with test fees refunded to students achieving a score of three or higher.

Enriched Academic Requirements

Additional graduation requirements include taking ten or more Honors/Advanced Placement/Post Secondary Educational Option courses and participating in at least two extra-curricular events.
