EPIC Service Club will meet Friday, May 24 at 7:45 AM in room 208.  Students interesting in joining for next school year are certainly welcome.


Congratulations to the Girls Track and Field Team as they finished 2nd to Keystone in the league meet. Johanna Ragland set a conference record winning the discus with a throw of 115’ 5 ½”. Marissa Nuti set a conference record in winning the 800 meter run.

For the boys team, Peter Koza won the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash. Peter missed the 200 meter conference record by 7/100th of a second. Peter joined with Hunter Ross, Nick Knudsen, and Ricky Bayness to win the 4 x 200 relay. The same group of students finished 3rd in the 4 x 100 meter relay. Michaela Bierly and Olivia Vasiloff finished 2nd and 3rd in the 1600 run.

The track teams are in District action Thursday and Saturday at Midview.


Congratulations to the 2013-2014 Lutheran West Flag Line. Students selected are posted on the School office window. There will be a mandatory team meeting Thursday, May 23rd in the band room. The team member meeting will be at 6:00 PM. The parent meeting will be at 6:30 PM.


Current Juniors: Plan to attend the Summer College Boot Camp on August 1 and 2. The Boot Camp is a hands-on experience where you will work on actual college application materials, including college essays. We will also hold an ACT/SAT review session to help students taking these tests in the fall. Admission interviewing techniques will also be covered. Space is limited. See Mrs. Slack for more information and a registration form.


The end of the year is right around the corner. Please have all outstanding debt paid in the kitchen. This means IOUs and negative balances on lunch cards. Deadline for seniors is May 23. The final deadline for underclassmen is May 29. Please plan accordingly.


Locker clean-up will be Friday, May 24th during chapel time. We will be on a schedule #2. Students should start taking items not needed home.


Thank you to all the students, faculty and staff who made CitySERVE 2013 a huge success. God blessed us with beautiful weather and a lot of great service was accomplished for those in need.

A reminder to all students that participated in CityServe that you need to turn in a service record form to receive credit for your service hours. Mr. Ressler will sign the form after you turn it in to the box in the IMC. Make sure the rest of the form is completed correctly.

All Junior and Senior girls have the opportunity to visit Classic Closet located in Westlake.  Classic Closet is an upscale consignment shop that carries current prom, cocktail and formal dresses for a fraction of department store prices!  All Lutheran West students who purchase a dress from Classic Closet will be offered a special discount when mentioning your school.  Pick up a coupon in the school office.


Seniors – The Pierstorf Memorial Loan Program provides interest-free loans for Lutheran students who are enrolled full time in a four-year undergraduate program at any accredited college or university. For more information and the application go to www.pierstorf.org


Host Families Needed for International Students. Do you have a heart for youth ministry and an interest in international students? We will be enrolling a number of international students, primarily from China, for the 2013-2014 school year and we are looking for host families. Students typically arrive in early August and return to their home country the following June. A monthly stipend is provided.

Lutheran West and Dr Ed Meyer, Baldwin Wallace University Professor of Physics  are co-sponsoring a series of week-long Gedanken Institutes for Problem Solving designed to improve the thinking skills of intellectually curious 12-17 year-olds.

The Institute will provide the opportunity for students to practice deep, sustained thought. It will develop the student's mental strength and stamina. The problems presented are not from any school subject. This is not a "math camp." Problems will involve pattern recognition, risk management, logic, operations research, three-dimensional thinking as well as many others. Students will work in groups to develop communication and consensus-building skills and there will be some competition as well.
 
Dates for the 2013 Institutes are:
  • June 24th - 28th (at Lutheran West)
  • July 8th-12th (at Baldwin Wallace University) 
  • July 22nd - 26th (at Lutheran West)
