ELYRIA CATHOLIC  --  The Lady Longhorns came out with a win at their season opener against the non-conference team Elyria Catholic with a score of 7-4.
Senior Emily Mystic led off the Longhorns at her first time up to bat with an over-the-fence home run in the second inning. Following her home run, the Lutheran West Longhorns were able to bring in four more runs, totaling five runs in the second inning. Senior Carry Smith also contributed by hitting a triple which brought a runner home. Senior Maddie Jakabcic hit two doubles deep into right field, and sophomore Elizabeth Petkac hit a double as well.
Mystic pitched all seven innings staying strong for the Longhorns. When crunch time came in the fifth inning with bases loaded, Mystic pulled through striking out the batter for a third out.
With one game under the Lady Longhorns’ belt, they have confidence moving into their next game against Wellington on Thursday.
