FAIRVIEW --  LW faced their biggest rivals Fairview on Monday falling short 11-6 in 7 innings.

The game looked promising in the first inning when LW jumped out to a quick 1-0, with junior Carrie Smith coming in for a run.  Fairview responded with four of their own in the bottom of the inning to reclaim the lead 4-1. As the middle innings approached LW was unable to provide a good offense. LW scored only one run in the next four innings, while Fairview scored five to make the score 9-2.

Unwilling to quit, LW had four girls touch home plate in the sixth inning and cut the score to 9-6.  It was, however, not quite enough as Fairview responded with two runs of their own and won the game 11-6.

The 10 hits and six runs was a nice effort for the offense, but it was not nearly enough as junior Emily Mystic, who pitched the entire game gave up 17 hits and 10 earned runs.  Mystic walked none and struck out six.

Lutheran West travels out to Buckeye, Clearview and Brooklyn later in the week in hopes of their first conference win of the season.  LW is currently 0-2 in conference play.
