Fairview --
Lutheran West was able to fend off a late game surge by the Fairview Warriors Wednesday afternoon at Bohlken Park.
After going into the bottom of the sixth inning with a six run deficit, the Warriors battled back and came within one run of the Longhorns. However, LW’s defense and pitching stepped up at a crucial time and were able to hold Fairview back in the seventh and get the win.
Pitching for the Longhorns was Aly Silberhorn. On the night, Silberhorn gave up five earned runs, had two strikeouts, one walk, and eight hits—four coming in the sixth and two going for extra bases. Backing her up in the field, Lutheran West played clean softball, committing no errors in the entire game.
On the offensive side of the ball, LW collected eleven hits with two going for extra bases. Senior Rachel McLain contributed a single and a double, sophomore Carey Smith had a double and a single as well, and Silberhorn had three singles.
The Longhorns improve to 3-11 on the season and 2-9 in the conference. They look to start a winning streak on the road versus conference foe Clearview tomorrow.
