ROCKY RIVER --  Lutheran West got a huge win last night, knocking off the previously unbeaten Cuyahoga Heights Redskins in a back and forth affair, 11-9.   West rode five RBIs from junior Hunter Albers and two more from freshman Edward Ramos on a double off the school to overwhelm the visiting Redskins.

Albers started things for the Longhorns in the first when he knocked in his first two runs with a two-out single to plate freshman Owen Youngers and junior Tyler Robinson who had both singled earlier in the inning.

Junior Ryan Szczepinski hammered a double to center to score senior Jake Albrecht from second (who reached on a double in the at bat before) to score Longhorn run number three.  He then scored on an error on the second baseman off the bat of junior David Busch.  Busch came around to score on another Redskin error in the same inning.

Meanwhile, Cuyahoga Heights wouldn’t go away, scoring four in the third and two in the fourth.  But Albers struck again in the bottom of the fourth with a one-out single to score Albrecht from second.  Albers and Busch—who had walked--scored on Ramos’ long fly.  Ramos hit the school just above the basement doors, about two-thirds of the way up the wall.  Ramos’ double put LW back up 8-6.
After Busch earned an RBI on a ground out in the bottom of the fifth, Albers continued his hot hitting with a two-out blast to the green house in centerfield. Albers’ hit cleared the bases—Albrecht was on third and Busch on first—and Albers himself ended up at third.  The triple put West up 11-6.

Cuyahoga Heights wouldn’t quit, scoring three unearned runs on Ramos—who had entered the game when junior Mike Montie had tired in the fourth on a hit batter, a double, an error, and a pair of two-out singles.  But it wasn’t enough, as West’s third pitcher of the day, sophomore Zach Hammer-Huber, picked up his third save in as many chances, getting the final four outs of the day.

West advances to 7-3 on the year and will take on Columbia on Monday.
