FAIRVIEW --  Lutheran West extended its winning streak to three games as the Longhorns swept the season series over rival Fairview with a 7-2 win on Wednesday.  Despite the soggy infield, West traveled over to Bohlken Park and took care of business behind strong pitching from sophomore Matt Brosky (W, 2-1) and a big fourth inning.
Brosky allowed a run in the second and third innings, but limited the damage with strong pitching with runners in scoring position.  Brosky pitched around a runner in scoring position in every frame of his five innings of work, limiting the Warrior hitters to a paltry 2 for 13 with runners in scoring position on the day.
For the Longhorn bats, it was like the game was split into two parts.  In the first three innings, the Longhorns struggled against the Warrior’s slow-tossing starter, leaving seven men on base.  But the game switched in the fourth when senior Tommy Walker blasted a two-out two run double with the bases loaded.  Brosky knocked in Walker and then scored on sophomore Rory Zakareckis’ double to the gap in left-center.
The Longhorns scored two more in the fifth on an RBI ground out from sophomore Owen Albers and an error and then again in the seventh when Walker drove in junior Josh Cales with a two-out RBI single.
The Longhorns advance to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
