KEYSTONE --  Lutheran West squandered a strong pitching performance from freshman Matt Brosky, as a good game turned ugly in the bottom of the fourth.  Brosky and West were down only 3-0 heading into the fourth.  Brosky, who was making his debut on the mound on Wednesday against PAC-12 perennial power Keystone, worked around baserunners all day, but wiggled out of trouble thanks to two different bases-loaded, infield-to-home-to-first double plays.  Thanks to those Houdini acts in the second and third innings, the Longhorns found themselves only down 3-0 heading to the bottom of the fourth.

As enjoyable and well-played as the first three and half innings were, the bottom of the fourth was just as bad or maybe worse.  The inning started off with an error on a ground ball.  The second batter hit a pop-up that was dropped putting runners on first and second.  Brosky then plunked the third batter of the inning loading the bases.
Brosky was pulled and replaced by fellow freshman Owen Albers who fared no better.  Albers coaxed a ground ball to sophomore shortstop Scott Berghaus but his throw to senior catcher Sam Jakabcic was late and Keystone picked up their fourth run.  Albers then walked in run number five.  A sacrifice fly to freshman Rory Zakarekis scored number six. Runs seven and eight came in on a fly ball that was dropped in right.  Keystone went on to score twice more in the inning and the 3-0 game was quickly turned into an 11-0 route.

The game started well for LW as the first four Longhorns got hits.  Unfortunately, sophomore Josh Cales was picked off first after his single, so West did not score in the inning, leaving the bases loaded.

West’s lone run came in the top of the fifth when Cales hit his second single of the day, moved to second on an error by the Keystone shortstop, moved to third on a sophomore Michael Felten ground out and scored on a sacrifice fly by junior Tommy Walker.
