Wellington --
As far as high school games go, Monday’s game at Wellington has to be labeled as bizarre. In the first two and a half innings, LW and Wellington combined for zero runs, four hits, and two walks. In the final two and a half innings, they combined for 19 runs, 13 hits, and 14 walks. And that doesn’t even include the three hit batsmen.
It all started in the top of the third when senior Jake Dersi lost his control. Dersi walked Wellington’s leadoff hitter then promptly gave up three singles and a double to the next four hitters. Suddenly it was 4-0 Wellington. Dersi got a couple of outs and then relinquished another single. After he walked the next two batters to load the bases, LW coach Trey Lamb was forced to go to his bullpen, bringing in the lefty sophomore Eric Szczepinski.  Szczepinski promptly walked the next batter extending Wellington’s lead to 6-0 before ending the inning with a harmless fly out to senior Jonathon Molnar in right field.
LW, however, wasn’t going to fold. LW responded with a six-spot of their own, highlighted by a two-out 2-RBI double from sophomore Derek Naim and a two-out 2-RBI single from CJ Griffin. Senior Andrew Samoson and sophomore Collin McCartney also had singles in the inning.
Unfortunately, Wellington went right back to work hammering LW for seven more runs in the bottom of the fourth to reclaim control of the game 13-6. Szczepinski lasted eight batters—walking two, hitting two hitters, giving up a single, and was charged with six runs.
The game was called due to rain in the bottom of the fifth after LW went quietly in the top of the fifth.
