WICKLIFFE --  The Longhorns were short-handed going into Saturday’s double header due to City Serve.  Nevertheless, LW should have won the first game, but they failed to take advantage of a dominant pitching performance by junior Jake Dersi.

The game was tied 4-4 heading into the top of the seventh, and the Longhorns had all of the momentum.  On the first pitch, freshman Alex Kebbel drilled a double over the right fielder’s head, and the Longhorns were in business.  Unfortunately it was short-lived. Sophomore Eric Lewis hit a ground ball to Wickliffe’s shortstop, who in turn threw out Kebbel at third base.  LW never had another opportunity to score the go-ahead run.

Dersi pitched eight solid innings, and he shut down Wickliffe’s offense.  However, in the bottom of the ninth Wickliffe got a base runner on a high popup that somehow fell in the outfield.  After two intentional walks, the bases were loaded with one out.  Dersi ran out of gas and walked the next batter on five pitches to give Wickliffe the win.
