ROCKY RIVER --  After looking a bit rough in their first game against Independence Wednesday, Lutheran West came out on a mission yesterday and obliterated the VASJ Vikings in five innings. Every Longhorn in the starting lineup had a hit and all but one hammered out an extra base hit. The Longhorns exploded for seven runs in the first inning, all off of Viking starter John Fialka, who was charged with all seven runs in one-third of an inning.

In reality the game was over after the first inning. Senior starter Justin Chislow (W, 1-0) danced around a hit and an error in the top of the inning to blank VASJ in the opening frame. Then the Longhorn bats finished things quickly when they battered Fialka to the tune of seven runs (six earned) on five hits and a walk.

Over the course of the game, LW continued to spray balls all over the field, to the tune of 14 hits—8 of them for extra bases. Senior Zach Hausmann continued his hitting rampage, netting two hits in as many at bats to go with three runs and three RBIs. Hausmann, who was also walked and hit by the pitch, has yet to be retired in seven plate appearances this season.

Senior Cal Thomay also accumulated three hits including a triple, a run, and two RBI’s. Sophomore Anders Mahon and senior Sam Myers also had two hits.
