ROCKY RIVER --
Due to the heavy rains this fall that have left Alumni Field unplayable for Friday night’s game against Clearview, Lutheran West was forced to move their home game to Fairview High School. West would attempt to win another game before the end of the season, but victory evaded them yet again.

LW got off to a good start with a fumble recovery that set up their first touchdown of the night. Junior Chris Ranc advanced the ball with an impressive reception and a broken tackle, and sophomore Greg Kunze scored on a nine-yard catch. Things went south after that series as Clearview scored two unanswered touchdowns - one of which was an interception returned for a touchdown.

The second quarter held more frustration for the Longhorns. After giving up another touchdown, the offense made it all the way down to Clearview’s goal line. Despite being within inches of scoring, they were unable to put the ball into the end zone. It was only when the Clippers took over on downs and fumbled into the end zone that senior Paul Herrin recovered the ball to give LW seven more.

After halftime, the Longhorns were unable to score again and could not hold the Clippers back. They threw two more touchdowns and sent their running back down the field for a third to put them up by 26 points. Several more interceptions and a few penalties stopped the Longhorns in their tracks as they lost 40-14. In order to win next week against Oberlin, they’ll need better control of the ball on offense and a more aggressive defense.
