The history of the Lutheran West Steak Fry and why it’s our largest Athletic Booster Fundraiser: Andrew O’Hara (senior 2014-2015) was an 8 year old ball player on a travel baseball team in Lorain County.  The O’Hara family was introduced to a Lorain county tradition:  a Steak Fry.  Andrew’s baseball team was to be supported through this steak fry, and the O’Hara’s were called to sell 20 tickets.  They didn’t know what to expect but found the event to be a night of great fellowship, and a great FUNDRAISER.  Andrew’s oldest brother, Jacob, was a senior at Lutheran West—so Tom and Cindy brought the idea to Lutheran West boosters.

In 2008 the first Lutheran West Steak Fry was held.  The goal was to serve 200 people and raise over $5000.  350 tickets were sold and over $11,000 was raised!  It became an annual fundraiser.  In each subsequent year it has raised between $11,000-$20,000 for our athletic teams!  In 2010, Tom organized his last steak fry.  He succumbed to pancreatic cancer in Feb. 2011.  It was named in his honor beginning in 2011.  Tom leaves a great legacy for Lutheran West athletics---as a football, basketball and softball coach, as a father of four LW athletes:  Jacob (2007 football, soccer, basketball, track) Caleb (2009 football, basketball, baseball)  Meghan (2011 volleyball, basketball, softball) and Andrew (2015 football and basketball), and as a dedicated athletic booster!
